CAAC Sports Initiative

The Community as a Campus (CAAC) Sports Program provides safe, organized opportunities for youth in Humboldt Park to play soccer, basketball, and volleyball. More than just games, the program fosters teamwork, leadership, mentorship, and community connection, creating a supportive environment where students can grow on and off the field.

Upcoming Schedules

2025 CAAC Sports in review

  • 654 students served over 15 schools.
  • Increased transportation support to schools: $10,000.
  • Provided $5,600 in stipends to head coaches.
  • Secured a $1,500 grant for West Park STEAM Academy for soccer uniforms. We also
  • Increased the number of games at bigger venues to ensure safe spaces for families to attend games.
Student Athlete Survey Results:
  • 98.7% of students felt safe during the program.
  • 78% expressed pride in being part of their team, reflecting strong team spirit.
  • Over 80% would recommend the program to at least one friend.
  • 87% reported maintaining a GPA above 2.5, reinforcing the connection between athletics and academics.
Broad Participation:
  • Students from 15+ schools took part, including Cameron, Sabin, Stowe, Moos, Erie, Yates, and West Park.

Youth Media Interest:
35 students expressed interest in contributing to the CAAC Newsletter, showing a desire to take on leadership and storytelling roles.

New Sport Requests:
Students most frequently requested the addition of flag football, softball, boxing, co-ed volleyball, swimming, and lacrosse.

CAAC is thriving!
Students are embracing the program, building confidence, community, and academic success—one game at a time.
